MINNEAPOLIS TOWNSHIP, 1858-1867

Minneapolis Township, the largest township in Hennepin County, originally (in 1858) included all the present area of the city between the Mississippi and Highway 18, south from Shingle Creek to Lake Street. In 1860, the northern tier of Richfield Township, from Lake Street to 46th Street, was added to the Township. In 1886, St. Louis Park and Golden Valley formed separate governments. Meanwhile, the City of Minneapolis had absorbed the balance of the Township, which by 1888 ceased to exist.
